Baby Skin Care & No Diaper Rash

I'm always all about keeping it simple.  There is no need to make things complicated with an infant's skin care regimen.  I honestly feel the less that you use on your baby the better.  

Here's exactly what I've been using on my son successfully since he was brought home from the hospital.  With this simple skin care regimen our son has not experienced any diaper rash at all.

• Cleanse... Very Diluted Unscented Castile Soap

• Moisturize... Unrefined Organic Fair Trade Shea Butter

• Treat... Colloidal Oatmeal Baths

That's it!!!  We've been cloth diapering our son and using reusable cloth baby wipes with water only.  (I'll share a separate article on cloth diapers).  Traditional baby wipes contain too many ingredients and chemicals to be used 10+ times daily on an infant's skin.

I feel that the combination of traditionally chemical filled diapers, baby wipes, and synthetic balms, along with not being changed often enough, diaper rash is inevitable.

We have also been practicing elimination communication.  My son often poos in a tiny pot which avoids having poo smeared and left on his skin for any length of time.  If one is missed, I cleanse him as soon as possible thoroughly with diluted unscented castile soap and water, then moisturize his skin with shea butter.  

I was once using organic coconut oil to moisturize, yet decided to switch to shea butter and have never gone back.  (I don’t use any soap on his face or hair, just water and shea butter at the moment.)

If I had a little more extra time, I would whip up a batch of my Simple 5 Minute Hair & Body Butter for my son.

It doesn't take long to make, but it does take a bit of time to clean up.  So currently I have just opted for shea butter alone.  I’m looking forward to having the time to make this creamy body butter again soon.

So there you have it.  This has been our very simple baby skin care regimen.  It has been working wonders, and our son's skin is thriving.  One thing that I have paid extra attention to is cleansing and moisturizing well between each cute baby roll.  Those little rolls are absolutely adorable, yet they do need a bit of extra attention.
