Creating Beauty at Home with Minimalism

When we moved from Los Angeles, CA to Raleigh, NC this past summer we sold and donated 95% of our possessions including art and decor. Once we settled in, I carefully selected purposeful pieces that would add interest, be budget friendly, and would continue the minimalist aesthetic that I enjoy. Although I've loved our bare 10 ft tall walls thus far, it was time to finally add some beautiful touches to our space in a simple way.
Decorating a home from scratch is something I haven't done since getting my first apartment after college. It has truly been a refreshing experience doing so with a family this time around. After a ten year journey of minimalism, many of the things that I would have looked at to decorate our home were no longer on my radar.
The less you have, the easier it is to focus on a few key pieces that bring joy to a space.
My minimalist aesthetic entails creating beauty in functional pieces. Over the years I've eliminated the need for decorative tables, coffee table books, book shelves, and artistic knick knacks. I love a clean space with minimal distraction and simple allure.
I was recently gifted a gorgeous floral canvas print from Photowall which has truly livened up our living and dining space. To keep to our minimalist decor aesthetic in our living and dining room, I added a cream cotton throw to our loveseat, and a new peace lily plant since unfortunately our previous palm died. I repurposed a basket to encase our peace lily with a ceramic base inside to better coordinate with the decor. Surprisingly I still enjoy our low seating for meals and the simple beauty of natural fiber cushions to sit on. Even with minimalist decor, I find that small details create the most impact.
I'm clear now that as I continue to bring life to our home, having one premier wall art piece is all I need in each room.
My goal is always to create a serene and beautiful home for my family. While the world is now quarantined for safety and healing, I encourage all of you to take the best care of yourselves and your family. Eat nourishing foods that build the immune system, listen to inspirational music to set the mood, and tackle the areas of your home that could use some love.
