The EASIEST Way To Trim Your Own Hair

image8.jpg

Last Friday I straightened my hair.  I haven't used heat in my hair for way over a year when I last blow dried it, and haven't flat ironed my hair for over three years.  That same evening I took a dance class and my hair fluffed up like you wouldn't believe even in a high bun.  My hair sadly no longer looked like much at all hence no photos of my hair straight. Despite all the hard work straightening my hair, I ended up washing my hair again Saturday night.

I obviously have naturally curly hair for a reason, and my hair was resisting anything but curls!

The best thing about straightening my hair was being able to really see the condition of the ends of my hair.  I also learned the importance of using minimal products when straightening since I probably used too much.  Anyway I had been trimming my hair in the past with cuticle scissors, a no-no since they are not meant for cutting hair, even though I had specifically purchased them for that intention.

This time after straightening my hair, I immediately went out and purchased an acceptable pair of hair shears.  I didn't invest in anything expensive, yet bought a new pair of hair shears from the drug store.  Once returning home I proceeded to give my hair a ten minute trim if that.

I used an extremely simple method for trimming my hair that actually made a BIG impact. I also think the new shears made a big difference too.

Since I've been wearing my hair in braid out styles mostly, I decided that a blunt cut versus layers wouldn't be the end of the world.  I still do have some layers in my hair though.  I like experimenting with different cutting methods to understand which cuts work best for which styles and to see what I prefer.  This cutting method is best done on straight hair or heat straightened hair of at least shoulder length or longer.  It is Feye's method of the U-cut.

I cut about a half inch off of my hair total and am thinking about using this method again.  It was so much quicker than the extensive curl by curl cutting method which is still absolutely amazing especially if you wear your natural curl pattern versus braid or twist outs.  Although with this blunt cut my curls stacked up just fine with a fraction of the time or energy.  If you want to save money or have more control over how your hair is trimmed this method could be for you.

There couldn't be a more minimalist yet precise hair cutting method!  Anyways here’s the tutorial.
